Muse Target: Let an AI Do the Shopping, No Card Needed

2026-10-08

You can hand the whole Target run to an AI agent: finding the item, working out how to pay, placing the order. One message did all of it here — and it was paid for without a credit card, a bank account or a checkout form anywhere in the process.

What a Target run actually costs you

Not money. Minutes.

Opening the app, scrolling past six things you didn't come for, comparing three that look the same, checking whether it's in stock nearby, deciding, finding the card, filling the form. None of it is hard. All of it is a slice of an evening you weren't planning to spend.

This run collapsed the whole thing into one message:

Us: "Can you help me buy a LEGO gift that is under $25?"

A budget and a brand. No product, no store — and nothing about how to pay, because Snaplii was already the connected payment method.

How to pay without a card

Here's the part that matters, because it's where most agent runs hand the job back.

You don't give the agent a card at all. You fund a prepaid Snaplii balance in advance, and the agent buys a gift card out of that balance to pay the merchant. Three things follow:

  • Nothing is linked. No credit card stored, no bank account connected, no online banking login handed over. There is no card for the agent to use, misuse or leak.
  • The ceiling is the balance. In this run that was $51.99 — plus a daily limit set on the key beforehand, enforced by Snaplii and not readable or changeable by the agent.
  • It's revocable. The key can be killed from the app at any time, without touching the money.

That's the whole mechanism. Setting it up is three steps, once, and we described the same boundary from the account side here.

It even chose which card to pay with

Because the money sits in a balance rather than on a card, "how to pay" becomes a decision with options — and the agent made it.

Muse: "Target — denominations $20, $30, $50, $100, $500. Huge toy aisle — lets his parents pick exactly what he wants."

"Best Buy — $20, $30, $50, $100, $500. Good for techy toys and electronics."

Which store carries the right thing, which denominations fit a $25 budget, which card leaves the recipient the most room. Then it recommended one and asked.

Muse: "Ready for me to get the $30 Target gift card? It's $0 out of pocket — fully covered by your $51.99 Snaplii Cash."

One tap. "Done! Your $30 Target gift card is purchased and ready."

Note what the menu was. Every option on it was a gift card payable from the prepaid balance. Our credit card wasn't the fallback — it wasn't in the set of things the agent could pick at all.

The receipt

Muse: "All done! 🎉 Your LEGO set is ordered."

LineAmount
LEGO City Fire Rescue Boat Set 60373$23.99 (was $28.99)
Tax+$2.86
Order total$26.85
Paid with$30 Target gift card, bought from the Snaplii balance
Due on any card$0.00
Left on the gift card$3.15

The set was already marked down — $5 off, caught by the agent, not by us. The $3.15 left over stays on the card in the Snaplii account.

And the order went to store pickup: ready within two hours, with an email when it's ready and a note to bring photo ID. It handled pickup the same way on a pet run.

The entire Target run — find it, pay for it, place it — came back done from one message. Nobody opened the app.

FAQ

Can Muse shop at Target for you?

Yes. In our run Muse took a budget and a brand, found an item that fit, worked out how to pay for it, and placed the order for store pickup — without us opening the app or entering a card.

How do I pay for something without a credit card?

Fund a prepaid Snaplii balance in advance and give the agent a scoped key. It buys a gift card out of that balance and pays the merchant with it — so there's no card stored, no bank account connected and no checkout form to fill in. The most that can be spent is the balance, under a daily limit you set beforehand.

Can Muse buy a gift card and use it to pay?

Yes. In our run Muse compared store gift cards against the purchase, recommended one, bought a $30 Target card from a prepaid Snaplii balance after a single confirmation, then used it to order the item for store pickup.

Is it safe to let an AI agent choose the payment method?

It depends on what's on the menu. In this run every option was a gift card payable from a prepaid balance — no credit card was linked, no bank account was connected, and the ceiling was the money already in the balance plus a daily limit set on the key beforehand.

Do I have to tell Muse which product to buy?

No. We gave it a brand and a budget — "a LEGO gift under $25" — and it returned options, picked how to pay, and ordered the item.

Was the credit card charged?

No. $0 was due on any card. The gift card was bought from a prepaid Snaplii balance, and it covered the order in full.

What happens to the leftover gift card balance?

It stays on the card in your Snaplii account. A $30 card covered a $26.85 order; the remaining $3.15 is still spendable.
